Policies & Procedures

Drop Off and Pick Up:

Our number one concern is your child’s safety! To ensure a safe pick up and drop off will require your help. Please plan on dropping your child off and picking him/her up along the long white picket fence located on 100 South. Please do not ever pull into the driveway! Please do not park across the street for pick up or drop off-this will ensure little ones are not crossing the street. Doors will open at start time, do not drop off students early as the teaching staff have limited time to prepare for the next class, and we want to greet them ready for a great day! We will help students put on shoes, coats and bags and will walk as a class to the fenced backyard for pickup. Staff will wait with them there until every child has been picked up. Students will only be sent home with those individuals listed on your registration form. Please let the teaching staff know if there is a change in who will pick your student up, or if your student will be going home with a friend. Please plan on picking your child up on time! A $10.00 late fee will be given for each late pick up beyond 10 minutes of class time ending.

Classroom Visitors:

We have an open classroom policy and parents are welcome to drop by anytime. Children love to see their parents visit in the classroom. Parents will also interact with their child and peers in class through the classroom parties. These parties should be kept simple! Parties might include a simple craft, treat, game, story or presentation. Plan on 30 minutes. Be sure to sign the party sign up sheet!

Monthly Calendars or Newsletters:

Calendars or newsletters will be sent home with your child the first day of each month. Please read the calendar carefully and post it in a place where it can be referred to frequently. They will outline general teaching themes for each day, as well as note any special instructions or events.

Book Orders:

Students will be sent home with a scholastic book order a few times throughout the year. These books will be age appropriate for preschoolers, and are quite inexpensive. The due date for any book orders will be noted on your class calendar.

V.I.P. Week:

Each child will be a "Very Important Person" once during the first half of the year. The monthly calendar will let you know when it is your child’s turn. A file folder will be included in your back to school packet which will note your child’s VIP date. Please follow the simple instructions attached to the folder and return it with your child the week he/she is our VIP. You may want to send your child’s favorite treat to share during snack time once during their VIP week. Again, keep it simple!

Show-n-Tell:

We will begin show-n-tell after the first week of school. 2 show-n-tell bags will rotate through the class. When your child brings the empty show-n-tell bag home with them it is their turn to bring something to show the next day. Please do not send toy weapons, items with lots of small pieces that can get lost, anything of great value, or items that are breakable. Pets are welcome, but please call first so we can arrange to show your pet first.

Birthdays:

We will be celebrating your child’s birthday on the closest school day to their birthday. Birthday treats can be sent for snack time if you would like. If your child has a summer birthday they will have a special birthday date assigned to celebrate.

Field Trips/Class programs:

We will have 2-3 field trips during the school year and the dates will be noted on your calendar. Field trips requiring transportation of children in vehicles will only occur if each parent/carpool can transport their own child. Each child should wear their school t-shirt on field day trips. This helps us identify our students easily. Permission slips will be sent for any field trips and extra parent supervision will be requested. We will perform a Halloween program in the fall, and a graduation program in May.

School Bags:

Please take time each day to review your child’s work. Displaying their papers show that you value their hard work. Ask your student what stories were shared in class, or what was their favorite part of the day. Remember a child’s play is their work!

Tuition:

Tuition is due the first school day of the month. A $10.00 late fee will be assigned for tuition paid after the 10th of the month. No credits or refunds will be given for vacations.

Illness:

Please keep your child home if they have a fever, rash, cough, pink eye, colored mucous from nose, upset stomach, or are complaining of not feeling well. Children who have been ill should be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to the classroom. We reserve three sick days per year for the teaching staff should we become ill. Generally, we can cover for each other, but in the event we cannot, we reserve the right to cancel class. Staff sick days beyond three days will be scheduled for makeup or a refund issued.

Treasure Box:

We focus on positive reinforcement to promote a healthy classroom environment. One of the tools we use is the treasure box. Students have the opportunity to earn a treasure at the end of each week. When behavior issues arise we use redirecting and praising positive behavior to decrease problem behaviors. When that is not successful, occasionally students will not earn a treasure that week.
